Status Report

Did the lake loop from Marketplace Mall today. Very windy; my average speed was 1 mph slower.

Everything on the greenway and trail looks good. There are still deep ruts on the marina side of the big dirt hill on the trail and there is a 5-foot wide overflow at the ford on the greenway.

The Linville Road parking lot is closed.

Down tree on the trail has been removed.

The trail is drying out but more rain is on the way.

Status Report

A tree is down across the trail in a curve on the north side of the lake about .5 miles from the dam. It's a small diameter pine with no limbs, which makes it difficult to see. From the dam side of the curve, the curve is sharp so you don't get a much time to stop. From the other side, the curve is more gradual and gives you more stopping distance. There is no avoiding it, you either stop or you hit it.

The western end of the trail on the south side is very soggy. It makes you think you have your brakes applied.

After all the work they did on the main parking lot, they left the barrier poles around the drainage ditch. The poles protrude into the trail and make it dangerous when meeting other bikes or pedestrians. A little rerouting of the trail would have been easy to do

Why doesn't the city consult with people who use the trail regularly before they work on the trail? Designers who site behind desks don't have a clue what kinds of hazards exist for trail users. Regular trail users can tell them every problem that exists because we deal with them almost daily

Status Report

This was my first loop ride of the year and it was slow. Partially due to the soft lake trail but mostly due to a soft me.

The greenway is in good shape. The Reynolds Park Road bridge project is done, The new payment under the bridge is lumpy but they eliminated the speed hump on the west side of the bridge underpass entrance. The concrete ford has a couple of inches of overflow but it's easy to cross.

The new parking lots and restrooms on both ends of the lake are finished. The trail on the south side of the lake from the lake entrance road to the small bridge is soggy where the city has done some scraping but the rest of the trail surface is solid. Both sides of the big dirt hill are rutted again. Until they fix the drainage problems on the trail, any repairs to the surface of the trail are just temporary.
