Salem Creek Greenway Information

The Salem Creek Greenway is located within the city limits of Winston-Salem, North Carolina and is maintained by the city Recreation and Parks Department.

The greenway extends from the Marketplace Mall on Peters Creek Parkway to the Salem Lake dam, with many parking lots and entry points along the way. Without the detour, you may ride the entire greenway without ever riding on or crossing a street.

Detour. Due to highway construction, a detour along city street with marked bike lanes is in effect from Central Park to Winston-Salem State University (about a mile of hills). Detour began in March 2014 as was scheduled to last 18 months; however, it will probably reopen mid 2015 at the earliest.

To enter greenway from the Marketplace Mall: as you enter the mall, bear left and drive around toward the Hamrick's parking lot. The greenway entrance is at the left corner of the parking lot.

Mileages from Marketplace Mall:
  • To Salem Lake dam and return: about 10 miles.
  • To Salem Lake dam, around lake trail, and return: about 17 miles.
  • To Salem Lake dam, clockwise around lake trail to the main parking lot, and return: about 22 miles.

CONCEALED WEAPONS. With a current concealed weapons permit, concealed firearms ARE PERMITTED on the Salem Creek Greenway. The greenway travels through or near some parks; if carrying a concealed weapon do not leave the greenway when athletic fields or courts are scheduled for use with the Recreation and Parks Department.
