The section of the Salem Lake Trail in front of the main gravel parking lot is open again. They have put a culvert under the trail at the area near the trail head where large ruts always washed out during rains. Maybe this is a sign of things to come and they will do the same at other trouble spots on the trail.
Status Report
The gate into the parking lots, boat launching area, bait house, and pier area is now locked and the area will be closed for the next few months for renovations. The gravel parking area outside the gate and the Linville Road parking lot will be crowded for many months. Lake riders probably should avoid the lots and park near access points onto the Salem Crr=eek Greenway and use it to ride to the lake.
CONSTRUCTION
Due to park renovation work, the section of the trail runs around the front of the gravel main parking lot at the park entrance is closed, you have to ride through the parking lot. Once the main construction begins, this area will have bank fishing and canoe launching so it will be a problem area until the fall, is not later.
Plans are for restrooms to be built at the Linville Road parking lot and other places. Hopefully, the plans will also include some maintenance work to the trail itself.

Fourth ride this week. Lots of bikes out today. Greenway is great. Watch for fallen limb protruding into lake side of the trail on the south side of the lake.

Greenway and trail are in good condition. It will be hot for the next few days but the Salem Lake Trail and half the greenway are in the trees with lots of shade so get out and ride.

GREENWAY is clear. some overflow at sidewalk and ford but easily passable.
TRAIL is clear no problems except for usual ones. Due to greenery, visibility through curves is zero so always assume there is an idiot around the corner.
